Correspondence with Alma Mahler, 1947-1948.

In the earliest items Schmitz and Alma Mahler were renewing their acquaintance after the war; Alma's letter reflects on her life situation generally, mentioning the deaths of her relatives in Vienna at war's end and of Franz Werfel; the news of her and Schmitz's mutual acquaintance Johannes Hollnsteiner; and the state of her property in Vienna. Schmitz's letters include reflections on the political situation and the state of the publishing industry in postwar Austria; in the latter context, he refers to the anticipated but delayed publication of Werfel's novel Das Lied von Bernadette.
